Messi in Kerala? CM chairs meeting on Argentina football team playing in Kochi

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) chaired a high-level meeting regarding the arrival of the Argentine football team for an international friendly match at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi, Ernakulam, in November. Argentine football stars, including Lionel Messi, will likely take to the field. 

The meeting laid out a roadmap for refurbishing the stadium to international standards. It also focused on parking, security arrangements, traffic management, crowd control, electrical safety, drinking water supply and waste disposal measures. 

The meeting tasked a senior civil servant with coordinating with various departments.

A panel chaired by Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak will ensure compliance with the master plan for the event. The District Collector, Ernakulam, will supervise the preparations and report in real time to the Chief Secretary’s committee. 

Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh, Mr. Jayathilak, and State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar were among those who attended the meeting.
